THE POLLOCK-KRASNER AWARD
Charlotte Riley-Webb, Atlanta native and African American fine artist is a 2006 recipient of the prestigious Pollack-Krasner Foundation award. In existence since 1985, the Pollack Krasner Foundation has awarded artists of recognizable artistic merit all over the world. Known globally for her rhythmic style, Charlotte has taken a new journey, transitioning naturally into the abstract genre of fine art and the trip has proven to be rewarding. She began the process by studying with two of this country's premier artists, John T. Scott of New Orleans, Louisiana and Moe Brooker of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. These opportunities fostered the discovery of her own unique abstract style. Of the local and national juried competitions to which Charlotte has submitted works in this new genre, she has received five first place awards and one honorable mention. Webb feels that receiving the 2006 Pollack Krasner Foundation Award further validates the move into her current genre. "Transitioning into abstract art has been a natural, liberating experience for me," says Charlotte. "I now have to trust my knowledge as it relates to line, space, texture, color, composition and emotional awareness as I conceive these new works and translate the relevance of these elements into my work. There are no visible references. No specific models from which to draw information. Abstract art represents the depths of one's artist soul. Within this process, I am truly exploring my latitude as an artist." Dr. Halima Taha, author, art appraiser and consultant, stated, "Charlotte's work reflects an American artist whose work is influenced by the diverse patterns and textures of Africa, Asia, North, South and Central America and the Caribbean… She has a good command of the materials she uses; her form and composition compliment content, resulting in significant visual statements.
Charlotte has also recently been inducted into the National Association of Women Artists, a prestigious and long-established international organization.
